Why Galapagos?
If you mean, what does the name mean... There was a customer who would come in year after year asking what the name meant, and one day he came in and said he figured it out. He said it’s because Galapagos are large turtles who live under a hardcover for a long time, like the store.
Why Galapagos Book Store?
We are an independent book store in a world of large, big box retailers. Yet, we carry more than 10,000 titles --- best-sellers to more esoteric tastes, books in English to those in 20 different languages. Over the years we have developed a relationship with some of the worlds most popular authors and illustrators --- many from nearby towns in Westchester County. You may even bump into some of them in our shop, either as they browse our shelves, or appear at one of our many book signings and readings. Since 1987 Galapagos Books has been a mainstay of the Hudson Valley --- a destination for readers of all interests, all ages and all cultures. And, yes, we have plenty of hardcovers and have been, and will be here for a long time.
